Transforming disappointment
Have there been times in your life where you had a vision or expectation of how a certain activity or event would take place and then it didn’t? As humans we have all experienced a feeling of sudden disappointment when something didn’t pan out the way we expected or intended.
So who really has control over these situations? Is there a higher force at play teaching us a growth lesson in each disappointment we experience? What if we didn’t have any expectations to begin with, would that then make it impossible to be disappointed?
In this week’s Moment of Inspiration I’m planting the seed that insteading annihilating expectations, what if we trace back to where or who these expectations are coming from to begin with.
Throughout our lives we get taught certain behaviours from our family, peers and society around us. We are taught what is right, wrong, good, bad and that a certain pathway of image is better than another.
We are also taught what things need to be present or achieved on the outside for us to feel valuable. This in turn plants desires and goals that we automatically strive to reach, before we get a chance to question if they are even our true goals. These misaligned goals can distract us from why we are really here and what we are here to contribute to.
The potency of a visionary lies in going beyond these inherited goals and truly seeing the role we are here to play – distractions aside. The role that requires us to maintain focus on our path, saving energy for holding space for others to grow alongside us
So the next time something doesn’t go the way you wanted it to or thought it would, step back a second and assess where is this disappointment coming from? Is it the ego trying to preserve its image? Was it something you were taught needs to be a certain way for you to feel valuable or worthy?
When you tune down the mind and its disappointment and step into the heart – there your peace, freedom and clarity lies. There you can truly let go and gain acceptance of what was or currently is. Which makes way for the hidden blessings and growth to arise. As you step deeper into who you truly are and what your role and focus is in this lifetime.
